Repeating Motif Generator - Quick start guide

Quick start guide

Launch Repeating Motif Generator, and you can see a document window.

New motif

Click 'New Motif' button to create a new repeating motif.

New motif is added to the repeating motif store

The new motif has appeared in the repeating motif store. That has gray circle look and selected.

And there is an image that is filled with the gray circle.

'Randimize' button and 'Export' button in the toolbar are enabled.

What is gray circle ?

An image filled with gray circle is a realization of repeating motif that has default value, but that is not interesting. So let's change parameters.

Click 'Randomize' button in the toolbar.

I clicked the Randomize button, but...

Is there no change ? No, the parameters has changed already. See the 'Update Image' button.

The button has enabled. Click the button or hit return key.

Image is updated

Then an image has displayed that is generated with randomized parameters.

Click 'Randomize' button and 'Update Image' button or hit command+R and return key instead until you feel fine.

Don't panic if your favorite motif has disappeared by wrong click.

Repeating Motif Generator supports undo and redo. Hit command+Z and click 'Update Image' button.

Save file

Save your document that contains your favorite repeating motif. Do 'Save' command in 'File' menu. Save panel will appear from document window as sheet.

Export image

You saved the combination of parameters now. Repeating Motif Generator can read the file, but other application can't read it.

If you want to use repeating motif with other application, you should save repeating motif as image file.

Then click 'Export' button in toolbar or do menu command 'export image' in 'File' menu.

Save panel will also appear from document window as sheet, but you can select file format by radio button.

Specify size

You can specify the size of image using 'Image Width' text field and 'Image Height' text field in the toolbar.

Enter number and hit return key, then an image will be generated with specfied size. You should export image after the image is generated.

You can also save a fragment image that construct the repeating motif. Click 'Fragment Image' in the segmented control.

The fragment image will appear in the window. The size of the fragment image is shown below the segmented control. The parameters of repeating motif determine the size of fragment image.

If you want to export the fragment image, click 'Export' button now.

More complex repeating motif

You can make more complex repeating motif by using multi layer. So let's make new repeating motif.

Click 'Repeating Motif' in segmented control, and click 'New Motif' button.

Use repeating motif parameter editor to add a new layer. Click 'Editor' button in the toolbar.

The drawer will appear at the right side of the document window.

Add layer

Click 'New Layer' button to add a new layer, and click 'Editor' button in the toolbar to close the drawer.

Two overlapped repeating motif

Click 'Randomize' button and 'Update Image' button or hit command+R and return key instead until you feel fine.

An image that has two overlapped repeating motif will be generated. The right image is a sample image.
